
The bombing of Nagasaki still haunts the world. The by-products of nuclear waste can be used in the development nuclear weapons.
Given the potential environmental and health impacts of uranium mining, and the dangers of radioactivity in all aspects of the use of uranium (from transportation to waste disposal), Quakers in Canada have been in a process of discernment as to whether or not to call for a phase-out of the uranium industry. Canadian Yearly Meeting will be considering this issue at its sessions in August 2011.
