Canadian Friends Service Committee welcomes opportunities to work with and assist those enhancing local initiatives to do justice through a small grants program. Small grants are available upon request to Friends and other agencies whose work particularly speaks to Quaker concerns for compassionate approaches to justice. If considering a grant, please read the Funding Guidelines and the Grant Application.

Past and present grant recipients include:

  • Out of Bounds – Out of Bounds is the longest-running prisoner in-house newsletter which is produced for persons both inside and outside the prison (began in early ‘80’s, continuous since 1993).  CFSC has been involved for more than five years, and our sponsorship of this newsletter from William Head Institution and allows the publication of an article on peace and non-violence in every edition.
  • Peterborough Community Chaplaincy – Through one of our grants, Peterborough Community Chaplaincy has renovated a room in their transition house for clients with mobility challenges. Their transition house helps federal ex-offenders who are moving to the Peterborough Area to get settled in the community without the stress of finding suitable accommodations.
  • Rittenhouse  - Rittenhouse was founded by Friend Ruth Morris in 1990; it is an important voice in the history of penal abolition and ‘healing justice’.  Its goal is to bring transformative justice into our current criminal justice system, and currently works to serve prisoners and their families.
  • Concilio (formerly the Christian Council for Reconciliation)
  • Alternatives to Violence Project – Canada
  • Individual Friend’s Prison Visitation
  • Justice Camp
  • Project Reconciliation (Kingston)
