Canadian Friends Service Committee offers a four-month paid summer youth employment opportunity each year. The Program Assistant serves from May 1 to August 31, and is open to applicants aged 19 – 29.
The Program Assistant position was created to give young people the chance to gain employment experience and skills by engaging in the work of CFSC and our partner organizations. Program Assistants undertake activities that give them a sense of the breadth of peace and social justice work undertaken by CFSC. Directed studies in Quakerism is also an option for those who are interested.
Program Assistants (PAs) observe and participate in CFSC’s work, gaining valuable work experience. They learn and undertake:
- office and administrative tasks;
- directed research, writing, and other activities; and
- participation in CFSC committee and other meetings/events (as agreed upon in the workplan).
PAs work in the CFSC office in Toronto (4 days a week) and on a local direct-service project of their choosing (1 day a week). The PA’s skills and interests are taken into account in the development of the workplan and selection of a direct-service opportunity.
The next application package for the Program Assistant position will be made available in December, 2017 and the position will start in May 2018.
