CFSC joins in renewed calls to end prolonged solitary confinement

More than 100 organizations, including CFSC, have provided evidence to Canada about children’s rights issues. This evidence comes in advance of a review of Canada by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) Committee in 2022.
A new open letter, sent by the Canadian Coalition for the Rights of Children (CCRC), which includes CFSC and many other organizations, notes a pattern within the government of Canada of “blaming other jurisdictions instead of taking seriously the duties we all share to create conditions where children can realize their full potential…”
Speaking of the information provided by organizations from around the country the open letter notes, “The evidence and recommendations in these reports cover a wide range of conditions that Canada has a duty to address so that children can realize their rights…” The letter, sent to the Ministry of Canadian Heritage, explains that the number of organizations involved shows that there is broad support across the country for change.
The letter offers multiple suggestions on how to improve Canada’s engagement in the CRC review and how to implement changes at home. Download the open letter (PDF).
