Governments must not ignore human rights in decisions about pipelines
April 10, 2014Commemoration of war
May 3, 2014It might sound like science fiction but all indications are that research is underway to produce robotic weapons that are fully autonomous. Canadian Friends Service Committee (Quakers) has signed on to the Interfaith Declaration in Support of a Ban on Fully Autonomous Weapons which states:
“We, as religious leaders, faith groups and faith-based organizations, raise our collective voice to call on all governments to participate in the international debate on the issue, and to work towards a ban on the development, production and use of fully autonomous weapons.”
We wish to be clear that we do not support any form of warfare or the development of any type of weapons whether controlled by humans or operating autonomously. We make this point in our cover letter to PAX signing on to the Interfaith Declaration.
