October 7th 2024: Statement on the situation in Gaza and links to latest resources
October 7, 2024Whether or not you made it to our first discussion in October, join us on Zoom for the second month of our discussion group! The group will meet near the beginning of every month from October-December to discuss an article or piece of media on the shared topic of…
The criminalization of dissent.
As we see on the news and on social media, human rights defenders are criminalized in Canada for speaking out on injustices. What we don’t often hear about is how corporations and prosecutors work together to sidestep established norms and procedures in these cases. We’ll also touch on how this criminalization has disproportionate impacts on Indigenous Peoples.
Our discussion will take place on November 7th, 2024 at 7:00 pm Eastern.
We’ll be discussing this article (PDF) on injunctions, land defence, and the criminalization of Indigenous resistance.
Please read the article before our discussion. We hope you bring questions and comments.
At the beginning of our time together, Karen Ridd our Transformative Justice Program Coordinator, will give a brief summary of the article with slides to help guide our conversation!
